Current projects sponsored by PW Green:

Placement of bluebird boxes in the Guggenheim Meadow.  Five bluebird boxes were installed on April 6, 2004.  These boxes are uniquely designed to attract bluebirds. Funds were secured from donations and the boxes were installed with cooperation from the School District. One of these boxes was sponsored by Brownie Troop #419.  Plans are in place to have members of the Troop take a guided tour of the property in order for them to observe and identify plants and animals.

Restoration and Maintenance Plan. PWGreen is in the process of developing a plan for the proper maintenance of the Guggenheim site that encourages growth of native plant species. Components of the plan include a mowing schedule for the meadows, removal of construction dumping, and trail maintenance.

Developing Environmental Education Programs. PWGreen is currently supporting both individual teachers and the PW School District in developing enhanced environmental curriculum for Port Washington schools leveraging the Guggenheim property.

Earth Day 2005 PW Green participated in a cleanup of the 36-acre preserve at Leeds Pond in cooperation with the Town of North Hempstead.  Supervisor Jon Kaiman visited and lent a hand as PW Green members removed over 30 bags of trash.

Children’s Library Program Nature as inspirations for creative writing and art.  Summer program on birds and butterflies.

Wheatley School Collaboration with Port Washington school district on environmental education.

Science Museum of Long Island PW Green is a planning partner in BioBlitz, a 24-hour biological survey of all living organisms inhabiting the 36-acre preserve at Leeds Pond.
